Homeowners who qualify for the age 65 or older residence homestead exemption generally have a ceiling placed on the amount of school district taxes owed on their residence homestead. Approval of the VATRE would not increase school taxes above that ceiling.

The ceiling may change in limited circumstances, including certain improvements to the property.
